Message from the President Elect, Jill Cannings

Posted by on Sep 17, 2018 in News | Comments Off on Message from the President Elect, Jill Cannings

Sharing my passion for Mother’s Union – in step with God As we prepare for the next triennial I thought I would share a little of my passion for Mothers’ Union.  I look forward to visiting branches and attending events during my time as your President, and sharing stories together. I often say I was “ordered” to join MU about 38 years ago by the then Branch leader.  She was a forceful and very organized person with a military background.  In fact I remain very indebted to her.  At that stage I had two young children and...

Receiving Maundy Money From The Queen

Posted by on Apr 17, 2018 in Past Events | 1 comment

On Maundy Thursday I travelled to Windsor to receive Maundy money from the Queen. All arrangements and the service are meticulously organised. One is invited to attend with a carer/ companion, and my daughter Emma was delighted to take on that role! We stayed overnight in Windsor and arrived early at the appointed car park on the “long walk,” the impressive entry into Windsor Castle. After politely undertaken security checks, we were driven in a royal coach into the castle grounds. We took our places in St George’s chapel and were...

Abington Church Festival of Angels

Posted by on Jan 2, 2018 in Past Events | 1 comment

In November Abington Church held its first ever ‘Festival of Angels’. So I hear you say, what is this? I would describe it like a flower festival but with all things to do with angels! All the church groups were invited to produce a display with an angel theme (we were asked to be creative!), including information about the purpose of the group. Visitors to the church over the festival weekend were able to enjoy the many displays as well as discovering something about the variety of work undertaken by church members, both within...

Long Service Award at Oakham

Posted by on Dec 12, 2017 in Past Events | Comments Off on Long Service Award at Oakham

It was a great surprise to Joyce Halliday when she was awarded her 60 year long service certificate. Joyce thought that she was attending the monthly Communion service at the home where she is now a resident. There was certainly a look of surprise when her son wheeled her in and she saw that that there were members of her branch sitting there! During the service Canon Lee Francis-Dehqani handed over to me and the presentation was made. Joyce is an inspiration to her branch. Thank you Joyce for your commitment, something that has impressed me...

Excellent news. Barbara Haynes, Diocesan...

Travelling Nativity Success Story

Posted by on Dec 5, 2017 in Past Events | Comments Off on Travelling Nativity Success Story

Our Mothers’ Union branch has knitted three nativity sets which go to different reception class children’s homes each night during Advent. One of the mums has videoed her son with it and this is what we’ve been sent. The mum is happy for you to use this and put it on the MU website if you like. Our first set has been in use since 2000. As the school has grown we’ve tried to keep up. There’s a lot of sheep knitting going on! Maggy I have been sent an adorable video of little Joseph playing with the nativity scene at home…  I hope...

Mothers’ Union in Barbados

Posted by on Nov 8, 2017 in Past Events | Comments Off on Mothers’ Union in Barbados

In October 2017 I visited my family in Barbados and was able to join the Mothers’ Union for a meeting. The Mothers’ Union branch was the Holy Trinity, St Philips, Barbados. They meet on the second Saturday in the month, in the afternoon. They start with worship, using the MU blue and red prayer books along with readings from the Bible. Afterwards a short committee meeting took place, which involved all branch members. They too had projects and also dealt with individuals. While the quiz Q and A from the Bible was in progress, the...
